I played a Sullivan County golf course at Roscoe Mountain Golf Course on June 28, 2023. The course was formerly the Tennanah Golf Course and was renamed under new ownership in 2022. I had been looking forward to this course because of family memories. It was an unexpected joy because of the hospitality and exciting renovation of this classic golf course. The course is in Roscoe, NY, along Route 17 in the southern Catskill Mountains. My uncle, Bruce Lamb lived in Roscoe after the war until 1965. My uncle was a Phys. Ed teacher and coach and avid golfer. He worked part-time at the Tennanah Resort to earn free golf privileges. At 2200 feet, the course is one of the highest elevations in the county and offers excellent views across the valley. The course has some comfortable changes in elevation with a nice mixture of holes. The yardage from the white tees is a challenging 6200 yards.

The course had become overgrown with minimal maintenance over the years, and the ambitious renovations will be a big improvement The course is experiencing a significant renovation, improving sunlight to greens and tees, improving drainage, and widening sight lines. The current owners and staff are excited to return this classic mountain golf course to a modern, well-maintained one. The resort as well has been updated. It is worth the drive up the hill for the view alone. But I highly recommend relaxing in the beautiful scenic clubhouse before and after a nice round of golf.
