Historic Course by the Ocean

Wrapping up our six-week tour of Florida, we chose to spend two days oceanside in the Beach Community of Melbourne Beach. Melbourne is one of the oldest beach communities in Florida and a relaxing stay from the sun and surf. Of course, I wanted to play golf and found a convenient course in Melbourne, the Spessard Holland golf course. The course was an Arnold Palmer designed in 1977. It is a par 67 course but an enjoyable test of golf. The name Spessard Holland seemed strange, so I searched for the source. Spessard Holland is historic in Florida as well. Holland is a well-known public servant, serving in World War 1, became the first native Floridian to become governor, and served in the US Senate for 30 years. The golf course is on the island community with several holes with a view of the inland waterway. The course has many palm trees and water hazards that require accurate directions in your shots. The course is nicely maintained and a great way to enjoy a day in the sunshine and test your golfing skills.
