Third Course of the Day

The third course that I played on July 24 was Shamrock Hills Golf Club near Holland, New York in the southern Erie County. This was a convenient site on my way from the previous courses I played that day. It was a sunny hot day and the course was just finishing up an event that day so as I went out in the late afternoon. I had the entire course to myself and played around in 2 1/2 hours.

The course is fairly wide open and most of the holes are straight going back-and-forth. However there are a number of dog leg holes, several water holes and an island green, which make for challenging courses. There are also a few creeks, crossing the fairways one interesting addition to their scorecard is telling you the distance to these individual water hazards. The course is under new management in the last year and they are working to make several improvements in the course, particularly improving sand traps. the The fairways were in good condition and greens were in very good condition. All the fairways are tree lined, but very forgiving. It is a relatively long course with three different tees. It was an enjoyable afternoon for me to complete my 61st county in New York State.
