I played the Chenango County, Canasawacta Country Club on June 28, 2023. Yes, that was a busy day as I played two courses that day, traveling for 90 minutes between locations and driving through some of the familiar rolling hills and farmland I recall from decades ago. While named a country club, it is also open to the public. I played Canasawacta many years ago. I didn’t remember much of the course, except the dramatic short par three off a cliff to the hole about 100 feet below. Playing the course made me hum the Army fight song lyric “Over Hill, Over Dale.” There are many changes in elevation, with several fairways having deep valleys. This contributes to many blind shots and thoughtful club selection to adjust to the up-and-down fairways and greens. This does make for a challenging round if you are unfamiliar with the course. The course is fairly wide open and easy to play. The yardage from the white tees is 6000 yards and a par 71. The greens were in good condition and fair. It was nice to be back in Central NY playing golf.
