The weather had improved—lighter winds, milder temperatures, and even a few glimpses of sunshine. It made all the difference, not just in comfort, but in my golf game as well.

The Jubilee Course carries its own proud place in history. At more than a century old, it may be “younger” than its famous neighbor, the Old Course, but it still offers a deep sense of tradition. Running alongside the legendary grounds of St. Andrews, you can’t help but feel connected to the long lineage of Scottish golf.

What sets the Jubilee apart is its closer proximity to the water. Many holes offer beautiful views of the Eden estuary, with the ever-changing light reflecting off the water and adding to the charm of the round. At one point, I even noticed sheep grazing casually alongside a nearby hole—a simple but memorable reminder that golf here exists in harmony with the surrounding landscape.

The terrain is relatively level compared to some links courses, but the design still finds ways to challenge you. A few elevated greens are cleverly incorporated, requiring thoughtful club selection and approach shots. And, of course, there are the famous pot bunkers—deep, penal, and strategically placed. I had the full experience of finding one, and quickly learned that escaping with a single shot is an accomplishment in itself.

With the calmer weather, I was able to enjoy the nuances of the course more fully—the firm turf, the subtle contours, and the rhythm of links golf played as it was meant to be. It was a round that blended challenge with enjoyment, history with scenery.

Playing the Jubilee Course isn’t just a round of golf—it’s a step into the story of the game. Walking those fairways, with the Old Course nearby and the sea just beyond, you can truly feel the heritage of Scottish golf all around you.

And on a day with a little sunshine and a little less wind, it becomes even more memorable.

After a challenging day battling wind and cold at Dumbarnie Links, my round at the Jubilee Course in St. Andrews felt like a welcome reward.
