Golf in the Villages

You may have heard a little about the Villages retirement community in central Florida. As the property began to grow over the last several decades they advertised nationally and hosted sporting events including golf. But, you have to visit here to fully appreciate it as a “retirement” community. There are currently 140,000 residents living their active and best lives with a rich social activities, dozens of recreation centers hobby clubs and sporting events. As for golf, there are 13 championship courses with either 18 or 27 holes. There are 40 nine hole Executive par 3 courses. That totals to 747 holes of golf. The Executive courses are free for residents to play. The Championship courses have low costs for residents and sliding scale for guests and non-residents. Nearly every resident owns a golf cart, so you see their tricked out golf carts along the cart paths and on the courses.

Palmer Legends

I played two of the championship courses while visiting here, Glenview Country Club and Palmer Legends Country Club. The courses and well maintained and with five different tees offer proper challenge to all levels of golfers. Holes have multiple sand traps and many with water or wetlands to navigate. The courses were a nice challenge to be experiences especially when the weather sunny, and 70s during January.
