On September 14, 2023, I played at the Old Hickory golf course in Livingston County, New York in the beautiful Finger Lakes region. Established in 1989, Old Hickory Golf Club is located near Livonia, New York. I was working toward completing one more course in my quest to play every county. Yes, this was the second course I played that day, trying to optimize my time in Western New York. With wide well-maintained fairways and unprotected greens it is an enjoyable course to play. The course is fairly long, with 6200 yards from the White tees. I played the Gold tees at 5300 yards, more in line with my golf abilities, these days. There are continuing improvements on the course working to provide more provide multiple tee options. The course is going under several aspects of positive improvements, including building a new clubhouse.

The course is fairly wide-open, but fairways are lined with trees. The smooth surface greens provide an excellent putting surface. There are only a couple of sand traps on the course, another aspect of being fairly forgiving. It’s a fun place to play and improve your scoring average. There are some changes in elevation, and several dogleg holes one particularly nice par three is over a pond. Water or creeks come in to play on several holes. There are also several changes in elevation to add interest. All in all an enjoyable round of golf and on to the next county.
