On May 21, 2024, I added to my New York State golf experiences by playing at the Saranac Inn Golf Course in Franklin County. This historic course was originally part of a famous resort, Saranac Inn. This was a destination for the rich and famous a century ago. The Inn no longer exists, but the golf course is a great recreational experience for vacationers in the Adirondack region. The, of course, is relatively open, with several mature trees aligning many fairways. There are nice changes in elevation on many of the holes and traps, which provide obstacles to reaching the greens. However, the fairways and traps on the course show their age, but the large greens were in excellent condition. Many sloping undulating greens call for thoughtful putting. This was a delightful golf experience in the Adirondacks. A reminder is that this is a wooded area, and playing in the early summer season requires bringing along your insect repellent. It’s a delightful recreational experience in a beautiful nature area of New York State Adirondack Park.
