On July 24, I had the opportunity to play the nine hole Saint Bonaventure University course in Olean, New York. Of course that’s on a ridge across from the campus and adjoining a cemetery. The course was a nice opportunity to begin my golf journey that day in attempting to play three different courses. The early morning walk in wet grass reminded me of several rounds at Cornell University when I was a student.
The course is a par 36, 3000 yards in length so it is a nice challenge as a golf course. There are a number of hills and valleys on the course creating a mixture of elevated tees and greens. There’s a number of mature trees that provide obstacles and a few small sand traps. There are several creeks, crossing several of the fairways and a pond as another obstacle to be concerned with. The greens on the course are very well maintained and moderate speed. It was a very economical and enjoyable golfing. I enjoyed my visit chatting with experiences staff and friendly golfers. The cost to play and walk nine holes was just $15, economical fun.
